Julika Radecke

About

After completing her Master in Biology at Rostock University, Julika Radecke, moved to Bern where she obtained her Ph.D. in Neurobiology under the supervision of Benoit Zuber. She studied the morphological changes of synaptic vesicle exocytosis by time-resolved cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET). Furthermore, in collaboration she investigated the ultrastructure of the pore forming toxin pneumolysin.

For her postdoc in Copenhagen with Jakob Sørensen she obtained an early postdoc mobility fellowship from the Swiss National Science Foundation to study the effects of SNARE mutations on cultured primary neurons by cryo-ET. Alongside, she developed a new method to grow primary neurons on EM grids co-cultured with astrocytes.

Following her postdoc she moved to the UK, where she started working as Beamline Scientist for Cryo-Electron Microscopy at the Electron Bio-Imaging Centre (eBIC) at Diamond Light Source. Her role involved user support for EPU and Tomo session setups, microscope management (Talos, Krios, Leica cryoCLEM), user and staff training, and developing an independent research program.

She joined the Stahlberg group at the EPFL in 2023 as senior scientist for EM microscope management and research in the area of method development in EM.
