Search for a site for the first electron microscopes of the DCI and the research instruments of the LBEM. Fall 2020.

The entrance to the Genopode. This will be an outstanding location for setting up an electron microscopy facility, as this is far away from the metro or other disturbances. A Genopode Annex is therefore planned in this location, but that will take time to construct.
Barbara Baumann and Jan van de Meer help inspecting various buildings in order to find a possible location for the DCI.
Marco Cantoni was very helpful in evaluating all buildings and possible locations on Campus. The measurements showed that Cubotron is impacted by the nearby Metro, as most locations on campus, but Cubotron was found to be a challenging but feasible location.
Lausanne is beautiful, and the EPFL / UNIL are great institutions. But where do we find space for several electron microscopes, which are sensitive to electromagnetic interference and floor vibrations?
Stephan Käppeli from SYSTRON AG (Zürich) is evaluating the electro magnetic fields from various ventilation systems and transformers in several buildings, in order to quantify their impact if installed in the vicinity of an electron microscope setup.
